Agreed Syllabuses for Religious Education are statutory requirements for the schools to which they apply and, because they are determined locally, across the country there are some differences between them. They are also subject to review and therefore likely to be amended. The same holds true for the curricula requirements for denominational schools. The National Framework for Religious Education is non-statutory and intended as advice to Agreed Syllabus Conferences; it is also capable of changing over time. Nevertheless, there are significant common elements across the National Framework and Agreed Syllabuses, particularly in attainment targets: in the National Framework and in all Agreed Syllabuses, the study of Judaism is either required or permitted at Key Stage 2.
